Northern Bypass in legal trouble

The construction of the Sh8.5 billion Northern Bypass has run into legal problems with residents of Runda estate seeking court orders to stop it.

Through their Lawyer, Mr Emmanuel Wache, the residents are seeking suit to stop the Kenya Urban Roads Authority from building the road through Runda estate and to quash NEMA’s decision to support the project.

According to Mr Wache, the road – whose construction kicked off last year – poses the risk of breaching the area’s security and the privacy of residents while exposing their children to the risk of being hit by speeding commercial vehicles.

The government, however, insists that the road must be built according to the original plan since it infringes on no private plot. The road is being built on land reserved for the purpose more than 25 years ago.

“No notice to demolish anyone’s property has been issued in Runda making opposition to the road untenable,” said Rachael Keino, the Public Relations Officer at the Roads ministry.

  1. surely it is a selfish excuse and i wonder where they want the roads built where pple have no children ,futhermore they found the plan already there, they shuold have opted for another estate.

  2. Honestly, are they the only ones in Kenya with children? Their complaints are really anti-development and very selfish. I have never heard that a child died along thika road or Waiyaki way, or any other road and even if those incidents are there, its just part of life. Instead what they need to do is start teaching their kids how to cross roads because the rest of Kenya needs the road and they’ll do nothing to stop it.

  3. Their argument is anti-development.Right now without that road the value for that adress is not as high, there is jam from morning and even at night
