Crown Paints (K) Limited has introduced a new type of paint in Kenya, which will be produced using silicone technology, as it seeks to grow its market share.

The paint, which will trade under the brand name Permacote Ultraguard Silicone, will be manufactured at Crown’s factory in Nairobi using the technology from Germany and will be packed in 1ltr, 4ltr and 20ltr cans.

The NSE listed paint maker has partnered with Wacker Chemie plc of Germany, a world leader in silicone based products, who will provide the necessary expertise in silicone technology.

Permacote Ultraguard Silicone, which comes in several ranges of colours, will be the first silicone based paint in Kenya. The paint is designed to withstand extreme weather conditions.

“In addition it gives surprisingly self-cleaning properties, which does not allow dirt to settle on painted surface. These high end properties help in reducing the maintenance cost of building,” said Crown Paints chief executive Rakesh Rao during the launch on November 13.

According to him, the Permacote Ultraguard Silicone paint is ideal for most architectural structures such as exterior concrete, masonries, new surfaces, cement, brick and stone among other surfaces.

“The life expectancy of this product is up to 10 years and it can be customized to the specific demand of additional improved life expectancy up to 15 years,” he added.

Crown Paints produces 2.3 million litres of paint per month and it aims to produce over 70,000 litres of Permacote Ultraguard Silicone paint in the next five months.
