A beautifully landscaped garden is no longer a luxury but a necessity for many home owners since it adds interest and boosts the home’s appeal.

Size notwithstanding, there are a myriad of ways in which you can transform your garden into an attractive and functional outdoor living space.

Here are 5 landscaping tips to help you make the most of your outside space.

1.) Make plans

Start by making a list of needs and wants of all family members and select each plant purposefully and then thoughtfully do some rough sketches of the yard indicating where things will be placed.

Create a budget keeping in mind that you do not need to overspend to achieve a great landscape.

2.) Start small

To avoid feeling overwhelmed, work on small sections at a time. Trying to tackle the whole project at once will lead to exhaustion and taking of shortcuts culminating in unsatisfactory results.

Since plants grow and fill in, taking it slow will give you the opportunity to see how things develop ensuring you are happy with the final result.

Dividing your project also allows you to work with cash on hand in case of budget constraints which helps save on costs.

3.) Create focal points

Any good landscaping design has one or several focal points. Decide on what will act as the focal point and where it will be placed then work around it.

Find something that stands out from the rest of the landscape in texture, form or colour while still in harmony with the rest of the landscape.

A tree, a sculpture, a water feature, a huge rock or a stunning plant are some of the most common pieces used as centres of attraction.
