World’s First Fully-Electric Compact Track Loader

Bobcat T7X is the first compact track loader to be 100% electric.

Doosan Bobcat has unveiled the world’s first fully-electric compact track loader – the new Bobcat T7X, which seeks to help customers maximise on productivity and sustainability.

Bobcat T7X is the first of its kind to be 100% electric, which allows the elimination of hydraulic systems, components, emissions, and vibration to offer a cleaner and quieter operation.

“We are proud to debut the all-electric technology of the T7X to help customers maximise both sustainability and productivity,” said Scott Park, CEO of Doosan Bobcat Inc.

Speaking at CES 2022 in Las Vegas, USA, Park said the loader is designed to be “more productive from the ground up with electric actuation and propulsion, quieter with high-performance torque and more powerful than any diesel-fuelled track loader.”

62KW lithium-ion battery

The Bobcat T7X, which is powered by a 62KW lithium-ion battery from Doosan Bobcat’s technology partner Green Machine Equipment, operates with zero carbon emissions.

Instead of a traditional hydraulic work group, the Bobcat T7X has an electrical drive system with electric cylinders and electric drive motors that require no fluids. It uses only a quart of eco-friendly coolant compared to 57 gallons of fluid in its diesel/hydraulic counterparts.

The fully-electric platform is said to allow instantaneous power and peak torque at every operating speed, as it runs with zero emissions and less noise and vibration – which makes it ideal for noise sensitive sites and indoors.

All-electric attachments

To accompany the new loader, Doosan Bobcat plans to roll out the world’s first all-electric attachments, starting with an auger to dig holes, an angle broom to sweep clean and a grapple to take and hold materials.

Equipment makers are increasingly rolling out all-electric products to meet the rising demand and interest for climate-smart solutions as the world seeks to cut carbon emissions.

Finnish piling equipment producer Junttan Oy, for example, recently unveiled what it termed as the world’s first electric piling rig – Junttan PMx2e, which is expected to help builders cut their carbon emissions.

The rig is fitted with two detachable 396kWh battery packs that replace the counterweight – and a 266kW electric motor – which offer 8 to 13 hours of use.

The company’s CEO Niclas Brogren said it felt fantastic to be “able to offer our customers a climate-smart alternative and a more climate-friendly construction site.”
