Komatsu Unveils Next-Gen PC220LCi-12 Excavator
The excavator debuted in Japan last December as the PC200i-12.

Japanese machinery giant Komatsu has unveiled its next-generation PC220LCi-12 excavator, designed to enhance performance and operator efficiency on construction sites worldwide.
The PC220LCi-12, unveiled at last month’s Bauma construction equipment show in Munich, is aimed at the European market, with a North American launch set for later this year.
The 22-metric-tonne excavator debuted in Japan last December as the PC200i-12.
The Komatsu PC220LCi-12 is equipped with Komatsu’s latest intelligent machine control system, iMC 3.0, which offers advanced features for improved productivity.
A few key highlights include its compatibility with tiltrotators, 3D boundary control to prevent obstacle strikes, auto-swing for truck loading, and functions to simplify trenching tasks.
The excavator is controlled via a new 10-inch screen that displays 3D graphics, offering a clearer and more user-friendly experience, which simplifies machine operations.

The PC220 excavator’s power comes from the new Komatsu 170-horsepower engine, which provides high torque and optimal efficiency. When combined with an upgraded electronically controlled hydraulic system, the excavator delivers a 7% increase in arm and bucket forces.
Additionally, fuel consumption has been reduced by 18% compared to previous models, thanks to the new hydraulic system. Komatsu has introduced a P+ mode, which boosts fuel efficiency by 20% while also improving productivity by 18%.
The PC220LCi-12 features an updated operator cabin. The new design gives operators 30% more space for their legs, making long shifts more comfortable.
Drivers can also opt for a high-end seat to further enhance their comfort. The cabin now lets operators see 50% more of the lower right side. It also has new cooling vents above the steering joysticks and extra spots for storing items.
To make work easier, the digger has an 8-inch touchscreen. This screen can hold settings for up to 50 different operators. Workers can pull up their own settings by using an electronic key or typing in their unique code.
The machine comes with built-in tech like a tool to measure loads, 2D controls, and a 2D safety wall that’s invisible. All these features help make work more precise and safe on the building site.
The Komatsu PC220LCi-12 is powerful and efficient.
