A Swedish workwear company has announced the launch of what it claims is the world’s first smart safety shoe—designed to automatically alert emergency contacts if a worker falls on-site.

The innovative footwear, developed by Båstadgruppen under its Monitor brand, is scheduled to hit the European market in autumn 2025.

The smart shoe is equipped with a built-in sensor developed by safety technology firm Quin, which monitors the user’s movements and detects abnormal incidents such as falls.

If a fall is detected, the system automatically sends an alert to three emergency contacts, along with the user’s real-time location and physical status.

“This represents the next level in both protection and technology,” said Ove Nilsson, category manager at Monitor. “We are taking a significant step toward the future of workplace safety.”

The technology also includes Quin’s proprietary ResQ function, which allows the system to be integrated directly with emergency services. In critical situations, first responders can instantly access essential information including medical ID, stored within the app-linked shoe.

Ani Surabhi, CEO of Quin, said the partnership marks a milestone in wearable safety innovation: “[Monitor’s] leadership in protective footwear and commitment to innovation mirrors our own. Together we’re making cutting-edge technology accessible to those who need it most.”

The Monitor ICE – Evolution Flow ‘Quin Within’ model will be available as a complete package for around $398. For those who prefer a modular option, the shoes alone will cost between $300 and $345, with the Quin sensor sold separately at $104.

An optional SOS auto-alert service is also available for a monthly fee of $3.50.

Designed to look and feel like a sport or outdoor trainer but built to meet industrial safety standards, the shoe blends durability with comfort.

According to Monitor, visual identity was a key part of the design process, with materials and style chosen to appeal to wearers beyond the traditional image of heavy work boots.

The shoes are part of Monitor’s wider strategy to bring advanced functionality into the safety footwear market. “Our partnership with Quin is a natural part of Båstadgruppen’s long-term strategy to integrate technology and advanced functionality to improve safety in the workplace,” said Niclas Brandshage, the company’s Chief Marketing Officer.

Båstadgruppen is one of the Nordic region’s leading suppliers of workwear and safety footwear. Its Monitor brand is known for producing hybrid shoes that combine the structural protection of work boots with the aesthetics and wearability of sports shoes.

Quin, whose motion-sensing systems are already used in cycling and motorsport, is now expanding its technology into construction PPE. The company’s goal is to turn passive protective equipment into smart, connected devices capable of improving safety in real time.
