Kubota’s next-generation Dash-5 mini excavators are making waves in the compact equipment market, thanks to a combination of advanced technology, operator comfort, and versatility.

From residential landscaping projects to heavier trenching work, the range’s reliability and versatility have made it a favourite among contractors.

“The KX045 is one of our top sellers. It’s a great rental piece and easy to trailer from job to job,” says Bill Holton, Kubota’s product manager. “It hits that sweet spot between power and portability.”

The Dash-5 lineup spans from the ultra-compact U17-5 to the heavy-duty KX080-5, offering both zero-tail and conventional-tail swing options to accommodate tight spaces and lifting requirements.

One notable feature is the optional six-way blade on the KX045-5. “You can approach a trench without spinning the machine,” Holton explains. “That saves sod, time, and effort.”

Operators are also benefiting from cab improvements commonly associated with modern vehicles. Fully enclosed cabs now include climate control, large foot pedals, ergonomic seating, and Bluetooth connectivity, while a 7-inch colour LCD screen displays machine data, maintenance alerts, and camera feeds with a consistent interface across the range.

Technology extends beyond the cab with KubotaNOW, the brand’s telematics platform.

“You can track fuel use, maintenance intervals, and even set up geofencing from your phone or desktop,” Holton says. The system is designed for both fleet managers and independent contractors and comes with three years of free service.

All major components—including engines, hydraulics, and attachments—are designed and manufactured in-house.“Everything is matched from the factory,” Holton adds. “It’s a better-balanced machine from the start.” This integration contributes to longer service life, improved performance, and fewer compatibility issues.

Industry observers have been quick to notice. Bryan Furnace, host of Dirt Ninja, described the KX080-5 as “the Cadillac of 8-ton excavators,” highlighting its stability, operator control, and responsive design.

With over 20 years of dominance in the compact excavator segment, Kubota continues to lead by blending reliability with comfort. “We’ve always focused on reliability and comfort,” Holton notes. “These updates just raise the bar.”

For contractors seeking a compact machine that balances technology, performance, and operator-friendly design, the Dash-5 range offers a compelling proposition that has already earned a strong following across jobsites.
