JCB Secures $45 Million US Military Backhoe Deal
JCB will supply 4CX backhoe loaders to the US Marines over five years.

JCB has secured a $45 million contract to supply its 4CX backhoe loaders to the United States Marine Corps (USMC), marking the company’s second major deal with the military.
Deliveries—including attachments and operator training—will take place over five years.
Richard Fox-Marrs, president and CEO of JCB North America, said: “We’re proud that, after an extensive evaluation, the Marine Corps has once again selected JCB… We value this continued partnership and the confidence placed in our ability to deliver machines that meet the highest standards of performance and reliability.”
The 4CX backhoe loaders included in the contract are equipped with JCB’s side-shift Powerslide system, which allows precise lateral movement of the boom.
Unlike centremount machines, the system expands the digging envelope by 10%, enabling operators to work efficiently in confined spaces, alongside walls, or around obstacles without repositioning the machine.
This configuration also permits full outrigger deployment in restricted areas, making the 4CX suitable for urban, utility, and tactical operations.
Chris Giorgianni, VP of Government and Defence for JCB North America, highlighted the machine’s versatility, saying: “The 4CX is the direct result of more than 70 years of continuous improvement. It’s built to perform in the most demanding of environments.”

The 4CX model offers a host of advanced features designed for both tactical and commercial applications. These include three steer modes, smooth ride control, Q-Fit quick coupler, equal-length boom and dipper arm, and an integrated lifting point in the tipping link for enhanced material-handling capability.
Its maximum dig depth reaches 14 feet, with a swing reach of 17 feet, while fuel-efficient engines reduce consumption by 10% compared with previous models.

This latest deal follows a $39 million 2024 contract in which JCB delivered militarised versions of its Teleskid Multi Terrain Loaders to the USMC.
It forms part of JCB’s ongoing support for defence operations worldwide and underscores the company’s commitment to producing machinery that meets rigorous military standards.
The side-shift 4CX lets the US Marines work in tight, demanding spaces without losing mobility or digging power. Its compact, all-wheel-steered, robust design performs equally well in urban sites and the field, reflecting JCB’s reputation for reliability.
