Builders are increasingly favoring compact machines, leaving backhoes to claim a shrinking 1.4% share of all new financed construction equipment, according to publicly available data. 

Over the past year, U.S. buyers have favored the Cat 420, Deere 320 P-Tier, and Case 580 Super N, as industry giants continue to dominate the market.
