Caterpillar Unleashes Its Most Powerful Engine Ever

Cat C32B delivers unmatched power and reliability for off-highway machines.

Caterpillar has launched a new heavyweight in its engine lineup — the Cat C32B — built to deliver more muscle and reliability for the toughest off-road machines.

The new 32.1-litre, 12-cylinder engine comes with design improvements to boost power density and reliability while extending rebuild intervals over the previous generation at new engine ratings.

Available through Cat dealers worldwide, the C32B builds on its predecessor’s legacy with numerous engineering upgrades intended to boost both power output and reliability.

“The new Cat® C32B builds on this field-proven reputation with a series of upgrades and new technologies that will drive the superior performance of off-highway equipment for years to come.”

The updated engine offers strong power levels based on emissions rules: up to 895 kW (1,200 hp) for US Tier 4 Final, 839 kW (1,125 hp) for EU Stage V, and 1,007 kW (1,350 hp) in less-regulated markets.

The Cat® C32B is built for tough jobs and works well in machines like large loaders, cranes, dredgers, paving machines, forestry equipment, and drilling rigs. Its durability is improved by a strong cast-iron block that is reinforced internally to better withstand stress.

Reliability has improved thanks to a thicker gasket for better sealing and redesigned cylinder heads with improved cooling and valve parts.

“The piston for the new C32B features increased compression height enabling increased power density for select applications,” the company said.

The Cat® C32B features a simple, maintenance-free system that does not require special heat controls or additional fluids, and it can run on renewable fuels like 100% vegetable oil (HVO).
