Vantage Data Centers is investing $2 billion in a major expansion in Stafford County, Virginia, with plans to build a three‑building data center campus

This was announced in a joint release by the company and Governor Glenn Youngkin.

The development, dubbed VA4, will cover 82 acres and support approximately 192 MW of capacity. It is Vantage’s fourth campus in the state, and once fully built it will bring the company’s total Virginia footprint to 782 MW.

Construction is expected to create about 1,100 jobs, and the facility will support around 50 permanent positions once it’s up and running.

The first building is scheduled to be finished by late 2027.

VA4’s three data centers, each two storeys high, will have a combined footprint of about 929,000 square feet. The campus is being designed to meet LEED Silver standards, following Vantage’s “sustainable by design” strategy.

To cool its operations, the campus will use a closed‑loop chilled water system, which reduces dependence on large volumes of water.

In addition, it will deploy liquid‑to‑liquid cooling technology with coolant distribution units that can support 100 per cent of its IT workloads.

Dana Adams, North America president at Vantage, said: “Fredericksburg offered a significant opportunity for Vantage to serve our customers seeking capacity and access to the resources of Data Center Alley.”

He added: “The region’s proximity to major metros, access to robust infrastructure, and growing technology ecosystem make it an ideal location to meet skyrocketing demand.”

Governor Youngkin praised the project, stating: “Thanks to companies like Vantage, Virginia is leading the world into a future powered by the limitless possibilities of artificial intelligence … With this $2 billion in investment, Vantage is paving the way for a stronger Stafford County and a stronger Virginia.”

Vantage has tapped DPR Construction as its general contractor for the VA4 development.

Analysts say that the move underlines the growing appeal of regions outside the traditional Northern Virginia “Data Center Alley” corridor.

The VA4 project is part of a broader trend in which data center developers are looking for scalable land, infrastructure, and less congestion, all while responding to surging demand driven by cloud computing and artificial intelligence workloads.
