South Korean construction giant Samsung C&T Engineering & Construction plans to become an “AI native” company, embedding artificial intelligence across all workflows and decisions.

This was announced at the company’s 2025 AI Day, held at its Seoul headquarters, which drew more than 400 attendees, including President and CEO Se-chul Oh, senior leadership, AI specialists, and partners from Amazon Web Services (AWS).

In his remarks, President Oh emphasised the strategic importance of AI in construction.“Our accumulated experience from global megaprojects can now be transformed into next-generation AI capabilities,” he said, urging staff to embrace AI as a partner rather than a tool.

Executive Vice President Byungsik So, head of ENG innovation, described the current state of AI adoption in professional workflows and the opportunities created by low usage in the sector.

He outlined three core pillars of Samsung C&T’s AI strategy: knowledge accumulation, active intelligence, and a shift in perspective, focusing on solving the company’s business challenges.

During the event, Samsung C&T also highlighted three AI tools co-developed with AWS. One, called AI-ITB Reviewer, is designed to analyse large volumes of bid documents to identify risks.

AI-Contract Manager helps with legal and contractual decision-making by detecting risk factors and providing guidance. Meanwhile, AI-Project Expert (AIPEX) analyses construction site data to provide insights for project management.

The company plans to apply these tools across all new construction projects starting next year.

Yoonsik Kim, Enterprise Lead at AWS Korea, praised the initiative, saying, “Leading global companies are no longer focused solely on AI performance itself but on how AI is integrated with their internal data, workflows, and security systems.”

He described Samsung C&T’s three AI agents as model examples of effective AI adoption.

The company intends to implement a phased AI transformation over the next three years, aiming to establish fully AI-driven workflows across its operations by 2028.

A spokesperson said the event was “an important opportunity to share a unified vision for how AI will redefine the construction industry and to reinforce our commitment to building an organisation that grows together with AI.”

Samsung C&T also highlighted ongoing collaborations with startups in AI edutech, wellness, and extended reality, signalling its broader strategy to integrate innovation across construction and related sectors.
