Caterpillar has introduced a new AI-powered solution, Cat AI Assistant, designed to change how customers interact with the company’s machinery and digital tools.

The system combines artificial intelligence with Caterpillar’s extensive data to improve productivity, efficiency and safety across jobsites.

The company described the launch as a “major step forward for Industrial AI, redefining how work gets done by combining data, AI and heavy equipment to help customers improve productivity, efficiency and safety.”

Cat AI Assistant brings together all of Caterpillar’s digital tools and information into one easy-to-use system. It works like a helpful partner, giving personalised advice and helping customers make quicker, smarter choices.

“Caterpillar’s strong digital foundation, including our Helios data platform that manages over 16 petabytes of data, is helping us move fast and deploy new AI capabilities to help our customers succeed,” said Ogi Redzic, chief digital officer at Caterpillar.

“Cat AI Assistant is a major leap forward in how Caterpillar supports customer success through best-in-class digital solutions, whether they’re working from corporate headquarters or at a remote jobsite.”

The AI assistant helps many users. Fleet managers can turn problems into planned maintenance, and technicians get step-by-step repair guidance with tips on common issues.

Operators in the cab will also benefit. The system offers information throughout the workday, from machine startup to shift handoff, without the need to switch screens or leave the site.

Leveraging the NVIDIA Jetson Thor platform, Cat AI Assistant supports speech recognition and advanced AI models to assist even with machine operation.

Caterpillar plans to launch the Cat AI Assistant by April. The in-cab version is almost ready after final testing. The company will show the system at CES 2026.

The AI tool comes at a time when many industries are facing skills shortages and more complex jobsites. Caterpillar says the assistant can help less experienced operators perform better. It also lets dealers give customers more personalised advice.
