A living room is the first area that your guest sees and forms a first impression about your home. As such, it is important to put some effort into making this space more appealing.

When undertaking an interior décor project, a bachelor should aspire to create a living room that is both appealing and functional.

Here are top decorating ideas for your bachelor pad:

1.) Entertainment unit – This is considered to be the heart of every bachelor’s living room. It is hardly possible to find a real man’s living room without gadgets.

Considering this area is most likely the focal point of the room, you should invest in a stylish TV stand with enough space for all your electronics.

A sizable TV and a home theatre system will make spending time at home watching movies or a football match alone or with friends more enjoyable.

2.) Contemporary couch – Invest in a large sectional sofa since more often than not you are likely to have friends coming over on weekends.

For ease of colour scheme alteration, let the couch be a neutral colour such as grey, white, brown or black and accentuate with some colourful throw cushions.

If the couch can be transformed into a bed the better – just in case someone decides to crash for the night.

3.) Coffee table – Most people grab a bite in front of the TV and you should therefore invest in a classy coffee table.

Furthermore, you will need somewhere to place small items you are using such as remote controls, mobile gadgets and magazines. You can also use ottomans which can also double up as extra seating space when and if the need arises.

4.) Stylish rug – This is a simple addition that makes a large impact. A rug is a great way of adding colour, texture, pattern and personal style to a room.

Besides its aesthetic values, a rug adds to comfort due to its softness and warmth under the feet. It is advisable to have a washable rug under the coffee table for ease of cleaning up spills.

5.) Storage space – The notion that a typical bachelor’s living space should be littered and untidy is out-dated. To avoid clutter in the room, storage space is important and doesn’t have to be boring.

Floating shelves are very fashionable and will look great in any living room. They are great since they allow you to display all your collectibles – adding a personal touch to the room. They also form a great library area where you can display your book collection.

A beautiful chest of drawers would be a great place to keep regularly used items within easy reach.

6.) Library – A stocked library is an indicator of a well-read man. Besides being considered sexy, reading, according to scientific studies, reduces stress, stimulates the mind and improves focus, vocabulary, memory and analytical skills.

The book collection can be neatly arranged in open book shelves according to colour or size together with other collectibles to create a great display.

7.) Lighting – Lighting is the most crucial aspect of decorating a room. To create a lively and refreshing living room, combine natural light through glass windows with artificial lighting.

To add more style into the room, complement your overhead lighting with some trendy pendant, scones, floor lamps and dimmers all which aid in adjusting the light appropriately.

7.) Window treatment – While curtains and blinds have for a long time been considered to be feminine, they are in fact gender neutral. It is not acceptable to be that guy who covers his windows with old sheets.

Window treatments are important since they provide privacy and insulate spaces against noise pollution and direct sunlight which can harm furniture.

To give curtains a masculine identity, go for solid colours preferably with a metallic sheen or geometric patterns and rough textures.

8.) Wall art РLess is more. Too much of anything, no matter how appealing, can become clutter. As such, you should keep every d̩cor at a minimum.

Choose unique pieces that blend in well with the rest of the décor. To make your wall hangings classier, put them in a frame.

Most importantly, showcase pieces that reflect your passion for cars or sports while you are still single and free.
