Global companies are increasingly expanding to Kenya in a bid to tap into opportunities arising from the government’s initiatives to complete a host of projects aimed to augment the country’s economic growth.

During the 21st edition of the Buildexpo Africa, which was held in Nairobi from May 3 to 5, exhibitors from at least 40 countries presented a range of products and equipment in the hope of attracting new business opportunities from East Africa’s largest economy.

Countries that dominated this year’s event included China, Germany, Italy and India – with several top multinationals looking to build a solid foundation in the regional market.

Speaking during the official opening of the expo, Cabinet Secretary for Industry, Trade & Co-operatives Adan Mohamed urged the exhibitors to take advantage of the growth opportunities available in the country.

“Companies represented at BuildExpo are market leaders with several leading international brands. We invite them to partner with us and utilize the abundant opportunities for growth and expansion available in Kenya,” Mr Mohamed said.

Some of the foreign brands present during the expo included MasaGmbh (Germany), Bauer MaschinenGmbh, MbkMaschinenbauGmbh(Germany), Jet Granito Pvt. Ltd (India), MetallurgicaAbruzzese S.P.A. (Italy), Nordimpianti System Srl (Italy), and Roser Co., Ltd (Korea).

Mr Mohamed reiterated the government’s commitment to make it easier for investors to bring into the country new construction technologies and solutions.

“To attain the goal of constructing 500,000 low-cost houses, the government seeks to adopt cutting-edge innovative technologies and materials and is pleased to work with investors who will present our country with such solutions in the construction industry,” he said.

Kenya is currently in the midst of a mega projects surge occasioned by the government’s initiatives to develop local energy and transport infrastructure. The country’s economic growth potential and Chinese support for projects are also contributing to the rise of mega projects.
