The global demand for cranes is growing at an unprecedented pace as nations race to support the fast-rising industrialization and urbanization.

Advances in several end-use industries such as automotive, mining, as well as oil and gas have also raised the demand for various types of cranes.

This has created a huge rental market for crane-owning companies, especially those operating in China and the U.S. – the world’s top two construction markets.

According to the 2023 IC100 index of 100 largest crane-owning firms, here are the 10 biggest crane companies in the world.

World’s Largest Crane Companies

1. Mammoet | Netherlands

Mammoet, a private Dutch company based in Utrecht, Netherlands, is widely regarded as the biggest crane company in the world with vast experience in heavy lifting and the transportation of large objects.

This has helped the firm retain its lead position in the list of the world’s top crane companies since the IC100 index began in 1995.

Mammoet, which provides solutions for lifting, transporting, installing and decommissioning large and heavy structures, operates in various markets from infrastructure to nuclear and petrochemical.

The company’s Index currently stands at 3,557,556.

Its largest crane is the SK350 with a lifting capacity of 5,000t.  The SK350 happens to be the world’s largest capacity land-based mobile crane.

2. Sarens | Belgium

Sarens is a Belgian multinational based in Wolvertem, Belgium. It specializes in heavy lift, engineered transport, and crane rental services.

The company produces a range of equipment including cranes, scaffolds, jacking products, and other heavy lifting products.

It operates in 65 countries and serves all markets – from nuclear and wind to offshore, and civil, which makes it one of the top crane companies in the world.

With an Index of 2,911,238, Sarens is the number two largest crane company in the world.

Sarens SGC-250 is its largest crane with a lifting capacity of 5,000t.

3. Buckner Heavy Lift Cranes | USA

With more than 70 years of serving the heavy commercial and industry markets, Buckner Heavy Lift Cranes is a globally recognized market leader. 

Buckner has undertaken numerous projects, including the Mercedes-Benz Stadium and the Stennis Space Center Test Stands in the USA.

The company’s Index currently stands at 1,469,571.

Its largest crane is Liebherr LR 13000 with a lifting capacity of 3,000t.

4. Lampson International | USA

American crane maker Lampson International has maintained its position as the fourth-largest crane company in the world.

Based in Kennewick, Washington, the company operates heavy crane lifts with capacities from 100 tons to 750 tons and heavy lifting transi-lift cranes with capacities from 500 tons to 3,000 tons.

It has an Index of 1,280,105.

Lampson LTL-3000 is the company’s largest crane with a lifting capacity of 2,722t.

5. BMS | Denmark

The BMS Group is one of the top crane companies in Europe.

Based in Nørresundby, Denmark, BMS is one of the world’s leading crane companies specializing in cranes and man lifts.

The company has an Index of 1,250,990.

Its largest crane is Liebherr LR 11350 with a lifting capacity of 1,350t.

6. Sanghvi Movers

Indian firm Sanghvi Movers is the sixth heavy lifting company in the world, and the largest crane rental company in India.

Based in Pune, India, the company offers rental services for medium to large-sized heavy duty hydraulic telescopic and crawler cranes.

Sany SCC8000A is its largest crane with a lifting capacity of 800t.

7. Bigge Crane and Rigging | USA

Headquartered in San Leandro, CA, Bigge Crane and Rigging has one of the world’s largest selections of cranes for sale or rent.

Biggie’s fleet of wheeled mobile and crawler units, including its 1,000-ton Liebherr LR 11000, ranks it among the top crane companies.

The company’s Index stands at 1,068,295.

8. CNIME Co. Ltd | China

China Nuclear Industry Mechanical Engineering Co Ltd has risen to position eight from 10 despite its small fleet, since the huge capacity of it few cranes add up to an Index of 917,105.

Zoomlion ZCC32000NP is CNIME Co. Ltd.’s largest crane with a lifting capacity of 3,600t.

9. Shandong Gulf | China

Based in Shandong province, China, Shandong Gulf Lifting Engineering is a prominent company specializing in heavy lifting and engineering solutions.

With an Index of 864,346, Shandong Gulf has earned a reputation as a major player in the global crane industry.

Sany SCC98000TM is its largest crane with a lifting capacity of 4,000t.

10. Sinopec Heavy Lifting | China

Based in Zibo, Shandong, China, Sinopec Heavy Lifting and Transportation is one of the top crane companies in the world.

The company has an Index of 860,624.

XCMG XGC 88000 is Sinopec’s largest crane with a lifting capacity of 4,000t.
