Local design-build company Questworks has been named Kenya’s best contractor for real estate by UK-based International Finance magazine, adding to a string of awards bestowed upon the firm in recent years.

The prestigious International Finance Awards, whose 2019 winners were announced in London on November 18, recognises “industry talent, leadership skills, industry net worth and capability on an international platform.”

Questworks, which offers turnkey construction, PV solar and office fit out solutions, beat other top contenders on the “strength of its application and past accomplishments,” the publication said on its website.

The company was founded in 2012. Its founders, who were then working at Strathmore University, had just completed a major expansion project at the university.

In an effort to retain all the technicians the project had fostered, the founders, under the leadership of Dr Raúl Figueroa, decided to start a project management company.

Today, Questworks employs more than 130 engineers, architects, risk analysts and construction technicians.

The company’s projects have won several accolades among them the Presidential Green Building Award in 2012, the Private Sector Renewable Energy Award in 2015, the Most Improved in Green Banding Award and the Special Projects Delivery Award in 2018.

Questworks was ranked 9th in the #Top100KE 2018 by KPMG and the Nation Media Group. The company was also the winner of the first ever COINA Contractor of the year Award.

Some of its notable projects include a 104-unit apartment building on Riara Road in Nairobi, a 2MW solar plant at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies, a 1,000-bed hostel at Madaraka, and Nairobi West Hospital expansion.
