Volvo Construction Equipment has unveiled its new EC950 High Reach excavator at the Demolition Phoenix event, marking the company’s largest machine in its demolition range.

Weighing over 400,000 pounds, the EC950 can reach a working height of 161 feet while handling a 7,500-pound tool. It joins Volvo’s EC400, EC500 and EC750 High Reach models.

The excavator is built for taking down multi-storey buildings and has a modular design to make transport and setup easier. Volvo highlighted that transportation was a central consideration in the EC950’s development.

“The excavator’s weight, height and length are within standard transportation limits,” the company said. “Its modular boom allows for easier assembly and disassembly, while features such as a removable counterweight, detachable side tracks and hook-on track units support safe and efficient transport.”

On site, the EC950 is designed for stability and safety. Volvo says it meets its Ultra High Reach standards, letting it handle heavy tools even at full height. Its durable undercarriage, purpose-built upper frame, larger boom and cylinder pins, and a specially developed ring gear help withstand the extreme forces generated during demolition work.

Operator safety and comfort are key priorities. The cab can tilt up to 30 degrees, providing improved visibility, while polycarbonate windows and a falling object guard offer protection from debris. Real-time safety monitoring is delivered through Volvo’s total moment indicator system, and optional Smart View cameras with obstacle detection add another layer of site safety.

“The EC950 is equipped with advanced demolition technology, including integrated dust suppression and a high-pressure washer to maintain components and control airborne dust,” Volvo said.

The cab features adjustable joysticks, a movable joystick console, a keypad and LCD monitor. It has heating and air-conditioning with filtered air, and noise-reducing features make it more comfortable for operators.

Volvo CE North America, together with authorised partners, has developed the EC950. The company confirmed that all aftermarket parts and warranty services are supplied through its dealer network. The EC950 High Reach is now available across North America.
