Chinese machinery firm launches office in Nairobi

The firm wants to cash in on the construction boom

The booming construction industry in Kenya has attracted another Chinese firm in Kenya.

XCMG Construction Machinery Co Ltd unveiled its Africa office in Nairobi on Tuesday to cash in on the country’s ongoing construction boom.

The move comes just a few months after vehicle manufacturer Foton announced it was setting up a Sh1.2 billion vehicle assembly plant in Kenya.

“The East African region has been recording growth in infrastructure projects, which are key in supporting its economic boom.

We will be a part of this growth in terms of supply of our machinery,” said Mr Qi Hong, general manager of the firm in charge of the African market.

Mr Qi added that XCMG Construction Machinery Co Ltd was motivated by the impressive growth and is focusing on increasing its presence in the East African region.
