JCB Unveils Its Largest Excavator Yet: The JCB 370X

The 40-tonne JCB 370X is the latest addition to JCB’s X Series range.

UK-based OEM JCB has unveiled its largest excavator yet, the 40-tonne JCB 370X, delivering a dramatic addition to its X Series range of tracked excavators.

With a maximum operating weight of 39,735 kilograms, the JCB 370X can move 4.5 tonnes more material per litre of fuel than its competitors, according to JCB.

Described by the company as its “biggest and most powerful model yet,” the JCB 370X is powered by an 8.9-litre, six-cylinder Cummins L9 diesel engine, which is certified as EU Stage V compliant – offering 240kW (322hp) at 1,700rpm.

Optimal power output

According to JCB, the digger’s engine is 14% more powerful than the JS370, delivering optimal power output over a reduced operating rev range to enhance fuel efficiency while reducing overall noise emissions.

“With more power, increased strength and durability, reduced fuel consumption and lower ownership costs, the JCB 370X is a major step forward for customers in the 35-40 tonne class,” says Paul Swallow, JCB’s business head of excavators.

“With fantastic operator comfort and control, the 370X delivers a heavy-duty excavator solution for markets around the world.”

The JCB 370X offers three working modes for optimized performance in digging, lifting, or economy, alongside standard auto-stop and auto-idle engine functions.

The excavator is fitted with a 6.45-metre monoboom, and users have a choice of dipper length choices of 2.63 metres, 3.23 metres and 4.03 metres dippers.

Optional heavy-duty dippers are available, offering extra crush bars and reinforcement to handle challenging tasks effectively.

Further enhancements include an enlarged bucket pin diameter and compatibility with a new JCB dual pin quickhitch for versatile attachment options.

14 LED work lights

LED lighting, expandable to 14 LED work lights, enhances visibility, while auxiliary hydraulic circuits offer versatility with up to 15 attachment settings.

Operators benefit in the state-of-the-art JCB UX user interface inside the cab, which can adapt up to 25 user profiles. It is accompanied by a bird’s eye 360° camera system and enhanced mobile phone connectivity.

Climate control, a DAB radio, keyless start, and twin cameras for enhanced security come as standard features in the cabin.

For operator’s comfort, JCB Command Plus ROPS cab, measuring 2.86m³, is equipped with a heated air suspension seat and features reduced in-cab noise levels.

The JCB 370X was introduced last week in the UK, coinciding with the announcing of an expanded Hydradig range and the unveiling of a new tilt rotator designed specifically for the Hydradig.

Meanwhile, JCB has partnered with Leica Geosystems to offer factory-fitted semi-automated excavator solutions capable of consistent grading in 2D and 3D set-ups.

The system is currently available on the JCB 220X tracked excavator in the UK, with a gradual rollout planned across the JCB X Series range in other regions.
