JCB has launched its first-ever diesel-powered telescoping boom lift, the JCB T65D, empowering construction companies with enhanced power and control.

The boom lift, unveiled at the ARA show in New Orleans in February, is driven by a 74-horsepower JCB 444 EcoMAX engine and features 360-degree continuous rotation.

Additionally, the JCB T65D provides sufficient power to support three workers in the basket across its entire operating range.

According to Chris Giorgianni, VP of product for JCB in North America, the company, which has achieved great results with its scissor lifts and articulated booms, now aims to exceed its customer expectations with this new product line.

“The addition of this telescopic boom fills another key segment of the market, making JCB a comprehensive provider of solutions for our customers,” he said.

Lift capacity

The dual-zone lift capacity of the T65D can handle 453kgs in the basket through 80% of its range and 272kgs over the full range.

This configuration, comprising an eight-foot basket and three access points, helps workers to manoeuvre and collaborate comfortably.

JCB product manager, Connor Stanmore, says this setup enables efficient task completion with three workers in the basket, eliminating the need for an extra machine.

Precise control

Stanmore explains that the 7-inch touchscreen ground display and 5-inch colour basket display indicate the total load as a percentage of capacity, ensuring operators can accurately assess if adjustments are needed to stay within range when overloaded.

The touchscreen has a built-in diagnostics system that provides error codes for quick troubleshooting and better uptime.

Additionally, warning lights, fuel level, and machine position are displayed on the colour screen, while USB charging points are standard on the platform console.

The platform control box is equipped with a dial for regulating boom speed and proportional joysticks for basket control, allowing operators to precisely control the lift near buildings or move faster in open spaces.

If the operators get stuck at height, manual controls can be used to lower the boom safely. Controls are protected under a cover to prevent accidental operation.

Foam-filled tyres are included as standard for traction and stability on rough, uneven terrain. Optional accessories such as a pipe cradle and glazing kit are available, with more set to be introduced later in the year.

Abundant power

According to Stanmore, the Tier 4 Final JCB 444 EcoMAX engine, renowned for its high torque and low revs, is a standard feature across JCB’s telehandler range.

Compared to other models on the market, it offers additional power. Besides, it is designed to operate without the need for a DPF or DEF.

“At 74 horsepower, the T65D has enough muscle to push through muddy terrain, steep grades and difficult underfoot conditions without bogging down,” he says.

Plentiful power

The T65D comprises the 7.5-kilowatt Harrison Hydra-Gen PTO-based hydraulic generator, ideal for crews deploying welders in the basket.

The Harrison generator, which is smaller and lighter than engine-powered alternatives, sustains full power for welders without compromising the primary diesel engine’s performance, Stanmore adds.

All serviceable components are placed at the front of the machine for effortless access. Additionally, self-lubricating bushings reduce the need for routine greasing.

To reduce the risk of damage, hydraulic fluid is circulated through steel pipework instead of hoses. The pipework sections are designed for efficient replacement if damaged, with added shielding for protection.

Hydraulic hoses are colour-coded for simpler replacement and maintenance.
